Experience the Magic of Tarangire

Tarangire National Park, located just a short drive from Arusha, is a spectacular destination that often gets overlooked in favor of its more famous neighbors. However, Tarangire offers a unique and deeply rewarding safari experience. Named after the Tarangire River, which provides a vital lifeline for wildlife during the dry season, the park is famous for its massive herds of elephants and iconic, ancient baobab trees.

During the dry months (June to November), thousands of animals migrate into the park from the surrounding areas in search of water. It is during this time that you can witness huge concentrations of wildlife, including wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, and gazelle. The park is also a haven for birdwatchers, with over 500 recorded species, including the vibrant lilac-breasted roller and the massive lappet-faced vulture.

Tarangire National Park Wildlife

What truly sets Tarangire apart is its elephant population. The park is home to one of the highest concentrations of elephants in Tanzania, with herds sometimes numbering over a hundred individuals. These majestic animals are often seen digging for water in the dry riverbeds or stripping bark from the ancient baobab trees. The landscape itself is breathtaking, dotted with these massive, surreal-looking trees that can live for over a thousand years.
