Price: From $940.00 / person
Drive time: ~2 hours (130 km)
Accommodation: Lodge near Lake Manyara / Karatu
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
After an early breakfast and a briefing from your Home of Wonders guide, depart Arusha and drive west through the Great Rift Valley escarpment to Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, then head out for an afternoon game drive.
Despite its small size, Lake Manyara is a biodiversity treasure. Search for the park's famous tree-climbing lions — a behavior rarely seen elsewhere in Africa — and watch for large troops of baboons, elephants, giraffes, impalas, and hippos. The lake's shallow, alkaline waters attract thousands of flamingos and pelicans, creating a spectacular pink shoreline. The scenic Rift Valley backdrop makes this one of Tanzania's most photogenic parks.
Return to your lodge in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Drive time: ~1.5 hours
Accommodation: Lodge on the crater rim or in Karatu
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa's most remarkable protected landscapes. En route, you may stop at a Maasai village (optional) to learn about the traditions of the people who share this land with the wildlife.
Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim in time for lunch, with breathtaking views over the caldera. Spend the afternoon at leisure, or take an optional guided nature walk along the rim with a licensed ranger (subject to permit availability). As evening falls, the cool highland air and panoramic crater views create a magical atmosphere. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Drive time: ~3.5 hours return to Arusha
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Early breakfast, then descend the steep 600-meter road into the Ngorongoro Crater floor — the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. Spend a full morning on an extended game drive through the crater's diverse habitats: Lerai Forest, the Lake Magadi wetlands, and the open grasslands of the crater floor.
The crater is home to an estimated 25,000 large animals, including:
Black-maned lions — among the largest in Africa
Elephants — mostly old bulls with impressive tusks
Black rhinos — one of the best places in Tanzania to see them
Buffalo, hippos, wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle
Thousands of flamingos at Lake Magadi
Occasional leopard and cheetah sightings
Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site near the hippo pool (Ngoitokitok Springs), then ascend the crater and drive back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon. Your Home of Wonders safari ends with drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
